SF Code is a code editor built for one job: making real development work fluent for blind and low-vision programmers using macOS VoiceOver.

This is a macOS-only, VoiceOver-only editor. That narrow scope is deliberate — a single screen reader tested by actually listening to it is worth more than three supported on paper.

Requires macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later.

Installing:

1. Download the DMG that matches your Mac.
2. Open it and drag SF Code to your Applications folder.
3. Launch it from Applications.

First Launch:

This build is not signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS will refuse it the first time with the message: "SF Code cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."

To allow it:

1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
2. Scroll to "SF Code was blocked."
3. Activate Open Anyway, then confirm with Open.

You only need to do this once.

What's in This Release?

Built for VoiceOver:

• The editing surface is a native <textarea> with no role override, so VoiceOver reads it with full character echo, word and line navigation, selection, and rotor support.
• No contenteditable and no ARIA application role anywhere in the app.
• The whole file stays in the DOM, so you can navigate to line 4,000 and have it read to you.
• Syntax colour and line numbers are painted in aria-hidden layers and never reach the screen reader.
• Announcements are rate-limited so the editor never floods VoiceOver.

Editing:

• Syntax highlighting for 15+ languages.
• Find and replace with spoken match counts, bracket matching, and auto-indent.
• Multiple open files with tab management, handling files up to 10MB.

Running Code:

• Sandboxed execution with timeouts for Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, Perl, and HTML.
• Interactive stdin, live output, and stop-at-any-time execution.
• Runtime auto-discovery, with a clear spoken error when a runtime is missing.

AI Assistance (Optional:)

• Fix Code rewrites the open file in place instead of describing the fix.
• Create Project writes a whole project and opens the entry point.
• Automatic fix-on-error after a failed run.
• API key encrypted at rest via macOS Keychain; never logged or written in plain text.
• The editor works fully offline without a key.
