Switching back to Official WhatsApp from Modded One Without Losing Data
In today’s world we all are addicted toward WhatsApp which is an instant messenger and the primary source of communication for most of the people. And because of this large number of usage, many people mod it for better functionality and some mod it for their own benifits.
Today we will be talking about how you can switch back to official WhatsApp if you are using a modet one such as YoWhatsApp. This guide will apply on every mod of WhatsApp, but in this guide we will stick with GB WhatsApp which was the most stable and popular WhatsApp mod.
Wait, do you got the news of its discontinuation? Hmm, That’s why are you here? I see.
Note: The given instructions are optimised for screen reader user. If you do not come in this category then use single tap wherever double tap is mentioned.
So Let’s get start it.
Step 1. Clean your WhatsApp:
Before taking any backup I recommend you to pleas clean your WhatsApp first. Here I meant by cleaning is to get rid of useless messages and chats.
Nowadays we all join many groups for different purposes, so if you got some groups chats of which is not important for you, so delete their chat.
How to do it?
First we will learn about clearing the chats of unimportant groups then we will talk about deleting the personal chats as well.
- Open your modded WhatsApp.
- If you have unread chats in the targeted groups then:
- Double tap and hold on one of these groups to initiate multiselection.
- Double tap on the remaining groups one-by-one to select them.
- Double tap on “More options” located at the top right corner.
- Now Double Tap on “Mark as read”.
- This will mark all the chats as read.
- If you have just one group then simply open the group once and press back. The chat will be marked as read.
This procedure is necessary because there is a problem in several modded versions of WhatsApp that if you try to clear the chats with some unread messages it will crash the app. As a result, the chats will appear empty but in actual this is simply because the entries from the database have been cleared, not the attached files such as videos, audios, photos, and what not. And this will kill the whole point of clearing the chat on the first place.
- Now to clear the chat:
- Double tap on a group to open it.
- Double tap on “More options” located at top right corner.
- Double tap on “More”.
- Another menue will open, double tap on clear chat.
- A confirmation popup will appear, make sure “Remove media from my phone” checkbox is checked and double tap on “Clear” button.
- This will clear the chat but let you stay in the group, as leaving the group is not our purpose.
- Repeat the steps for all other target groups.
- Now it’s time to delete the chats which are less important for you:
- From the chats list multiselect the chats you want to get rid of. Similarly as you did with the groups.
- Once you have selected all of your desired chats, then focus on the top of the screen, you will notice the appearance of some new options such as Pin chats, archive chats etc. you have to click on the delete chats option and it will again open the same confirmation popup.
- Confirm the state of checkbox followed by “Clear” button.
Hence your WhatsApp chats are now cleaned.
Step 2. Backup your chats:
Now we’ll backup our clean chats so we can restore them in official WhatsApp client.
How to do it
- Double tap on “More option” button from the main screen of WhatsApp, and open the “settings”.
- Now find the "chats" and open it, here you have different options, but we need backup for this time. So double tap on “backup”.
- It will make a backup of your chats and messages. It depends on your chats that how much time it will take. Usually it can take up to 30 seconds.
Step 3. Uninstall the mod:
Now we have backed up our chat and messages, so we are ready to shift on official WhatsApp client. At first we are going to uninstall this mod.
How to do it
There are several methods of accomplishing this task, we will be focusing on the quickest one.
- Find the modded WhatsApp from your app drawer and double tap and hold it as we did while selecting the chats for deletion. But this time do not lift the fingur.
- Drag your fingur toward the top edge of the screen. You will hear the screen reader announcing “Uninstall”. Lift your fingur at this place.
- A confirmation popup will appear, double tap on “Uninstall” button.
Note: If this method is not working for you then, you can uninstall the app from application manager present in your phone settings as well.
Step 4. Giving final touch to Backup:
You have taken the backup of your chats to restore in the official WhatsApp, but it is not ready quite yet.
How to do it
Follow these steps to give it a final touch:
- Open up the File Manager of your phone.
- Navigate to internal storage and look for GBWhatsapp folder.
- Rename it and remove the first two character i.e. “GB”.
- Now double tap on the folder to open it and again open the “Media” folder.
- Here rename all the folders and remove the first two characters “GB” one by one.
Note: Due to immense variation of file manager across devices we are not mentioning the exact procedure to rename the folders.
Tip: You can accomplish this task quickly via your computer/laptop by attaching your phone to it through data cable or any other mean just in case you are feeling too lazy to rename a good amount of folders on android touch screen.
Step 5. Install official WhatsApp client:
As we uninstalled the modet version of WhatsApp from our phone so now we will install the official WhatsApp client.
How to do it
- Open the WhatsApp page on BHP the link above, It will take you to Whatsapp page on our website.
- In the Download section click the “download WhatsApp Messenger from the Google Play Store” link.
- It will take you to WhatsApp page on playstore.
- Here double tap on “Install” and wait for completion.
Step 6. Restoring the Backup:
The Official WhatsApp has been installed, now we will restore our backed up chats.
How to do it
- Upon successful installation, double tap on Open button.
- Configure the WhatsApp as usual i.e. Agree with Terms, Enter Phone Number, Complete SMS Verification and Enter 2FA key (if any).
- At this stage the WhatsApp will ask for permission to look for Backup. If this is the case, then allow the required permission.
- Upon success, your Backup will appear with the date/time and size. Double tap on “Restore” button next to it.
- The restoration process will begin. It might take some time depending on the size and processing power.
- On completion, again the details of the Backup will appear. This time, there will be a “Next” button. Focus on it and swipe right once. The number of restored messages will be announced.
- Swipe left and double tap on “Next” button.
- The usual profile screen will appear where you can enter your Display Name and double tap on “Next” button.
- Wait for a while on the “Initializing” prompt until the Chat list appears.
- Woila! You have restored all your chats and groups along with their settings!
Conclusion:
While it is indeed a sad moment for all the GB and mod lovers, but this is the reality. WhatsApp has officially against the Mods now. Instead of making all these features in Official client they are making life difficult for the hard working 3rd party developers. Anyways this is going out of scope of this article. We hope the instructions led towards accomplishing the goal hasel free. See you next time.- 2721 reads
