Welcome to the "Introducing NVDA" Webinar Recording series. BHP conducted a webinar aimed at amplifying Non Visual Desktop Access screen reading solution for Microsoft Windows to the audience of South Asia on July 11th, 2021.

Beside very low per-capita income, visually challenged community in this part of the world is heavily dependent on commercial and super costly screen readers for performing their day to day computer tasks since decades. Definitely the affordability of those screen readers is most of the time not possible and people are forced to use, not so good methods.

NVDA however, is a very good answer to this problem. Currently the advanced computer users here have either completely shifted to NVDA or started using it on their own.

However, the beginners are being trained on existing popular screen readers in institutions and older generation of users are not ready to accept the new option. This webinar aimed at bridging the gap and presenting NVDA as fully functional and feature pack solution and convince the audience to try it out.

Installation and Configuration:

The first session is about Installation and initial configuration where Mr. Abdullah Zubair will explain how easy it is to install NVDA and configure it the way one can desire.

Windows Basic Navigation:

Ease of use lies in the heart of windows. With its versatility, Windows tops all its competitors by a fairly good margin. It is presumed that one must be equipped with the thorough knowledge of managing Windows's basic operations. considering which, in the second video of this series, Ms. Mehwish will be guiding your way for effective basic navigation with NVDA. Web Navigation is one of the most crucial element of learning of a screen reader. Provided their special commands, all the screen readers try to make it easy for anyone to surf the internet be them on any level of expertise. NVDA is known as one of the best screen reader in regards to allowing for the best web surfing experience. Thereby in this third part of our series, Mr. Abdul Muhamin will be going over some of the useful commands for browsing the web in an effective manner.

Remote Access:

NVDA is quite nifty when it comes to the functionality. It is a common myth that NVDA being a free screen reader does not fit well in office setting where heavy duty software such as Microsoft Office package is used. In this 6th session, this myth is busted as Waqas Ramzan demonstrates the smoothness and complete support of NVDA in three most popular office programs i.e. Word, Excel and Power Point. Transition from JAWS:

Now that NVDA has emerged as one of the biggest competitor of JAWS, it has not always been the case, since JAWS was the go-to screen-reader back in 90's and 2000's. so, if you are someone equipped with the training of JAWS, you will feel at home by starting out with NVDA, as in this part of our series, Mr. Abdullah Zafar covers the transitioning tips to get you the most out of your screen reader, as well as a detailed guide of what has remained unchanged in NVDA. NVDA's Support for extensions harnesses the versatility of this program to enable one to effectively benefit from a variety of services. Whether it be the most needed functionality you've always wanted your screen reader to support, accessibility support for your favorite app or having useful features such as quick word lookup and quick translation services at your disposal, you can be at a peace of mind by the fact that there is a nap for that.
