What is Virtual Audio Cable?

Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) is a software application that functions as a virtual audio device within a computer system. It allows users to create virtual audio connections, essentially acting as a bridge for routing and transferring audio streams between different applications and devices on the same computer. Unlike physical audio cables, Virtual Audio Cable operates in the digital realm, enabling users to manipulate and control audio signals virtually. This software is particularly valuable in scenarios where flexible audio routing, enhanced audio quality, and customization of audio setups are essential, making it a versatile tool for various applications, including recording, streaming, gaming, and professional audio production.

Functions and Features:

  • Audio Routing: Establish virtual connections between different audio applications and devices on the same computer.
  • Enhanced Audio Quality: Optimize and improve the quality of audio streams by leveraging the virtual nature of the connections.
  • Customizable Setups: Tailor audio configurations to specific preferences, allowing for a personalized and adaptable audio environment.

  • Installation Procedure for Virtual Audio Cable:

  1. Begin by downloading the Virtual Audio Cable software.
  2. Once the download is complete, extract the contents from the archive by useing WinRAR or 7Zip.
  3. Locate the "setup.exe" or "setup64.exe" file according to your operating system requirements within the extracted folder and initiate the installation process by running it.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions meticulously to seamlessly complete the installation.

By following to these steps, you will be able to successfully  install Virtual Audio Cable, ensuring a smooth and effective integration into your audio setup.

Important Note:

For screen reader users, it is advised to switch to your preferred audio device, such as speakers or any other device currently in use, rather than sticking with the default or "Microsoft Sound Mapper." This adjustment is necessary as screen readers may not deliver output as expected due to the default configurations of VAC.

Let's Setup Virtual Audio Cable:

  1. After installation, Line 1 will automatically set as the default device. If not, set Line 1 as the Default playback device.
  2. After setting the Default Device, open the location "C:\Program Files\Virtual Audio Cable" and open the executable file named "vcctlpan.exe".
  3. While the "vcctlpan.exe" (Virtual Audio Cable Controll Pannel) is open, shift-tab to focus on the "Combo box Cable range." After focusing, shift-tab twice to reach a textbox where the number 1 is written. Erase the existing number and enter the desired number of cables you need (e.g., in our case, it is 2 for two lines). After entering the number, press Tab to find the "Set" button, and press Enter. Then close it.
  4. Go to your Sound settings or open the Run dialog again with Windows Key + R, type "mmsys.cpl," and press Enter. The Sound dialog will open. Select the Recording tab, open the properties of Line 1, go to the Listen tab, and ensure that the "Listen to this device" checkbox is checked. Press Tab, choose "speakers" in the "Playback through this device" combo-box, and click Apply.
  5. In the Recording tab, open the properties of your preferred microphone device (in my case, it is "M1 by Boya"). Select the Listen tab, ensure that the "Listen to this device" checkbox is checked. Press space-bar to check if not. Press Tab, choose "Line 2" in the "Playback through this device" combo-box, and click Apply.
  6. Set "Line 2" as the default microphone device in the Recording tab.
  7. Select the Playback tab, open the properties of "Line 1," select the Levels tab, press Tab, and set the volume slider from "63" to 100. Repeat the same process for "Line 2."
  8. Restart your PC.

Virtual Audio Cable is now ready!
